TIRUPATI: Anantapur district police crossed the 10,000 mark in terms of stolen or lost mobile phones recovery, a rare distinction for a district police wing in the state.

Anantapur SP P Jagadish, who took part in the mobile phones recovery mela held at the police parade grounds, handed over 1,309 stolen and lost mobile phones worth approximately Rs 3.45 crore on Tuesday.

Speaking to reporters later, Anantapur SP stated that the district police wing recovered 10,195 stolen or lost mobile phones worth approximately Rs 18.85 crore in numerous special drives.

Meanwhile, Anantapur SP launched the "Offenders Surveillance App", a new application which would help the police department in keeping a strong tab on the movements and activities of unlawful elements with a history of crime.
