AMARAVATI: AP chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu said that 15 universities have evinced interest in setting up world-class educational institutes in Amaravati as he emphasised on the need for a change in the Centre's policies so that international private universities like Stanford, Harvard and Oxford could foray into India and Andhra Pradesh either through direct campus or through collaboration with others.

Speaking after laying the foundation stone for VIT-AP along with Union minister Venkaiah Naidu here on Thursday , the CM said his government's aim is to turn AP into a knowledge hub by ensuring establishment of world-class institutes.“It is one of the unforgettable moments in my life as

, the first-ever private university, has come forward to establish a campus in Amaravati. Our students need not go out of the state for quality education as more institutes will come up here,“ he said.

Naidu said institutes like SRM University , Amity University, Amrita University , AIIMS, Indo-UK Healthcare Institute and others will provide quality education to lakhs of students of AP . “While VIT-AP has promised to provide education to 50,000 students in 20 years, SRM and Amrita will also enrol 50,000 and 47,000 students respectively in the next few years. Amity , AIIMS, Indo-UK Institute of Health (IUIH) and National Institute of Design (NID) will ensure services to 10,000, 2,000, 2,000 and 500 students each,“ he explained.
