According to Samalkota Inspector Srihari Raju, the victims' family was constructing a building on a five-cent plot of land in Vetla Palem village. The Bachhula family, neighbors of the victims, lodged a complaint with the village panchayat, claiming the victims had encroached on a pond called Mala Cheruvu while building their home. The construction of the building was almost completed.

Since there was no panchayat intervention on Saturday and Sunday, the victims’ family accelerated their construction work, reaching the slab stage. Irritated by this, the Bachhula family attacked the Kardala family. More than 10 members of the Bachhula family assaulted the victims.

Kardala Prakasa Rao (60), Kardala Chandra Rao (55), and Kardala Yesu (40) were killed in the brutal attack. Five others were injured. Prakasa Rao died on the spot, Chandra Rao succumbed to his injuries at Samalkota government hospital, and Yesu died at GGH, Kakinada.
