AMRITSAR: The Hindu community in Sindh, Pakistan, today staged a demonstration seeking protection of minorities in the country following the abduction, forcible religious conversion and marriage of a minor Hindu girl to a Muslim man twice her age. The incident has sent shock waves among the minority community who allege they get no protection from the law enforcement agencies.

Ramesh Kumar Vankwani

, patron-in-chief of the

Pakistan Hindu Council

, said, “Sindh is known as land of peace and harmony but unfortunately, peace-loving patriotic Hindu community is being forced to migrate from its beloved Pakistan.”

Vankwani, who is also a member of the Pakistan national assembly, informed that 16-year-old Ravita

Meghwar

was abducted by some men from the influential Syed community in Tharparkar’s Nagarparkar area in south-east

Sindh province

on June 6.

He alleged that a local Islamic preacher Ayub Jan Farooqi Sarhindi had issued the certificate of conversion of Ravita the same day she was abducted. In the certificate, the girl had been mentioned around 18 years of age, he said. He further alleged that there were certain forces creating obstacles in the passage of the Minorities Protection Bill, which had been unanimously passed by the Sindh assembly. He demanded an early recovery of the innocent Hindu girl.
