BATHINDA: Akal Takht Sahib's former jathedar and slain hardliner Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale's nephew Bhai Jasbir Singh Khalsa met Waris Punjab De chief Amritpal Singh before his arrest from Gurdwara Sant Khalsa at Rode village in Moga district on Sunday morning.

Gurdwara Sant Khalsa is the birth place of Bhindrawale where later a gurdwara was built.


Jasbir Singh Khalsa said that he got to know about his arrest at about 12.30am on the intervening nigh of Saturday and Sunday. He reached the gurdwara at about 4am on Sunday and held talks with Amritpal Singh, where he addressed the people who had gathered in the gurdwara. Khalsa said that the police had apprised him and IG Intelligence, one SSP Ajnala (Amritsar Rural) had reached Rode village to take Amritpal in custody.

Khalsa said that Amritpal elaborated that why he remained in hiding for 35 days and why he is giving his arrest now as many youths were being picked up.

It is at this gurdwara that Amritpal's dastarbandi was held on September 29, 2022 and he had got prominence among Sikhs saying that Sikhs still are slaves. He had frequented gurdwara even later and a caretaker of gurdwara, Balwinder Singh, was picked up by the police.

It is being said that Amritpal specially chose the gurdwara to get more attention as this gurdwara is revered in foreign countries where Punjabis and Sikhs are residing in big numbers.
