BATHINDA: Acting on a complaint of

sexual harassment

filed by a former postgraduate student against the head of a department of

Guru Gobind Singh Medical College

, a constituent college of

Baba Farid University

of Health Sciences (BFUHS), the Faridkot deputy commissioner has summoned the accused doctor to appear before the prevention of sexual harassment committee on Friday. The committee headed by additional deputy commissioner will examine the complaint and record statement of the doctor against whom the ex-student has leveled charges of sexual harassment.


The district administration summoned the doctor after

Punjab Students Union

threatened to show black flags to ministers reaching Faridkot to participate in the 10-day Baba Farid Aagman Purb, starting from September 18. A delegation comprising various organisations met DC Kumar Saurabh Raj on Monday with a demand to take action against the doctor. The delegation also met Faridkot SSP Manjit Singh Dhesi and has given a call to hold a protest outside his office on September 25, if action was not taken in the case by then.

A girl, who wanted the job of a tutor in community medicine department of the BFUHS, had levelled allegations of sexual harassment against the head of a department of the medical university. She had filed a complaint with the police, the state women's commission and anti-sexual harassment committee of the university.
