Nanded range sniffer dog ‘Tyson’ wins gold, silver at All India Police Duty Meet
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A Doberman sniffer dog from the Nanded range secured a gold medal in the obedience category and a silver medal in ‘refusal of food' at the 69th All India Police Duty Meet (AIPDM), showcasing exceptional discipline and training.Attached to the Parbhani police, Tyson (the Doberman) represented the Maharashtra police after earning medals at the state police duty meet in Pune earlier this year. He led the state's crime detection dog squad at the national event alongside his handlers, police havaldar Ramchandra Jadhav and constable Sadek Pathan. The duty meet was organised from March 29 to April 3 at the State Reserve Police Force Group Number 4 in Nagpur. It saw participation from police contingents of 28 states, eight Union Territories, and central armed police forces. A total of 148 police dogs competed across multiple skill categories. In addition to his medal-winning performances, Tyson also delivered an impressive showing in the ‘seek and find' category. Police officers said the refusal of food test is a crucial parameter, assessing a dog's ability to resist food offered by strangers — an essential trait for operational reliability and field safety.Inducted into the Parbhani police in 2022, Tyson has played a significant role in investigations involving theft, robbery, murder and missing persons cases. He received specialised training at CID Pune and has consistently excelled in competitions, including winning a gold medal at the Nanded range duty meet in 2023.Officers attributed Tyson's success to the leadership of Parbhani superintendent of police Ravindra Singh Pardeshi and the dedicated efforts of the training team. In recognition of the achievement, deputy inspector general of police Shahaji Umap felicitated the dog squad with a cash reward of Rs 25,000 and a commendation certificate, praising the team for enhancing the prestige of the Nanded range.
