Woman delivers baby outside govt medical college & hospital superintendent’s office in Sambhajinagar
Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A viral video showing a woman giving birth outside the superintendent's office at the govt medical college and hospital (GMCH) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has triggered public outrage. Dr Shriniwas Gadappa, the head of obstetrics and gynaecology at GMCH, confirmed the incident occurred on Saturday evening.Dr Gadappa said the woman arrived at GMCH while experiencing labour pains. "By the time our resident medical officer and health workers could reach for help, the woman had given birth outside the labour room," he told TOI. Gadappa said the woman had no prior antenatal care registration with the hospital."The woman and her family left hastily after the delivery, disregarding staff requests to admit the newborn," Gadappa added. GMCH officials reported no formal complaints regarding the incident as of Sunday evening.GMCH board member and health activist Pravin Shinde said the woman and her relatives struggled to navigate the state-run facility. "The woman and her relatives were new to the GMCH and could not get the desired medical help in time. The OBGY department is located on the second floor despite our demand that it should be shifted to the ground floor. Also, one of the two lifts in place for reaching the second floor is not working," he said.Shinde criticised senior GMCH officials for initially denying that the incident occurred on hospital grounds, describing their response as insensitive and an attempt to avoid responsibility. GMCH dean Dr Shivaji Sukre was unavailable for comment.Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A viral video showing a woman giving birth outside the superintendent's office at the govt medical college and hospital (GMCH) in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar has triggered public outrage.
