Yemeni national detained from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for 9-year visa overstay

Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: A 29-year-old Yemeni national, who allegedly overstayed in India for nearly nine years, was detained by personnel of a central agency from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, where he resided for over a year without informing local authorities.The detained foreign national has been identified as Binashikhabubkr Mohammed Ahmed Ali.Police commissioner Pravin Pawar said, "We have taken serious cognisance of this foreign national overstaying in the city. Our teams will carry out fresh screening of the foreign students to check if anyone is staying beyond the permissible period."According to officials, Ali first entered India in 2015 on a double-entry visa to pursue a BBA course at a Bengaluru college. However, after failing all his subjects, he discontinued his education in 2017. Authorities said his double-entry visa expired in March 2017. His passport expired in Nov 2019. However, he continued to stay in India without obtaining any extension or valid documents.The city police's anti-terrorism branch, led by inspector Rajesh Mayekar, initiated documentation of his overstay. "He was detained, and details regarding his entry, stay, and travel history are being verified and documented. We found that his family regularly sent him money," Mayekar said.DCP (crime) Ratnakar Navale said that after gathering all necessary information, authorities would initiate further legal procedures. "A restriction notice will be issued to him as per due process, following which steps will be taken to deport him to his home country. Till then, Begunpura area police station will monitor him," Navale said.
