85th accused arrested in Sambhal violence case
Bareilly: Police on Sunday arrested the 85th accused in the Nov 2024 Sambhal violence case. The accused, Sher Mohd, was allegedly involved in stone pelting. Police said he was held under BNS sections of "rioting" and "attempt to murder" after a warrant was issued by the local court.SHO Kotwali police station Amrish Kumar said, "Sher Mohd, a resident of Kot Garvi in Kotwali Sambhal, was arrested for his involvement in a stone pelting incident on Nov 24. He was identified through video footage and photographs."Till now, 84 persons have been arrested, including two murder suspects, three women and the head of Shahi Masjid committee Zafar Ali. Allahabad high court (HC) granted bail to three of them in one case each, although they each face four more cases.On Nov 24, violence had erupted near Shahi Jama Masjid during a court-directed survey over claims that it was originally a Hindu temple. The unrest left five persons dead and several police personnel injured. Twelve cases were subsequently registered.
