Bareilly woman, born in Pak, accused of forging papers to get govt teacher job, sacked

Bareilly: An assistant teacher at a govt school in Bareilly, who was born in Pakistan -- her mother still holds a citizenship of the neighbouring country -- has been booked under sections of forgery and cheating by UP police after a complaint by a local block education officer.
Additional SP (Bareilly) Mukesh Chandra Mishra told TOI: "The woman managed to get a fake domicile certificate in Rampur. She used the papers and got a job in the education department. We registered an FIR against her on Jan 14 under BNS sections of ‘cheating by impersonation', ‘cheating', ‘forgery of valuable securities', ‘forgery with intention to cheat', and ‘use of forged documents as genuine'. She is currently absconding."
Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA), Sanjay Singh, added, "Investigation by the Local intelligence unit (LIU) found that Shumaila Khan's parents hold Pakistan citizenship. The matter came to light in Oct 2024, and we suspended her at that time. An FIR has been registered now, and her services have been completely terminated. We'll recover the salary withdrawn by her since joining."
Shumaila, 43, was working as a teacher at Madhopur in Bareilly's Fatehganj West. In 2015, Shumaila's mother, Mahira Akhtar alias Farzana, working as a govt teacher in Saidnagar block of Rampur since 1992, was "terminated" too. Mahira was married to a Pakistani in 1979, who divorced her in 1981, it is alleged. Thereafter, she returned to India and married here.
Police sources said Shumaila completed her schooling in Rampur and Bachelor of Education (BEd) from Meerganj in Bareilly district. She was born in Pakistan from Mahira's first marriage and allegedly got a fake "domicile" certificate from Rampur SDM's office, and used it to get the teaching job.
An LIU official, meanwhile, said that "Shumaila after learning about police action has left for Bikaner in Rajasthan and a team of UP police is looking for her there." Attempts to contact her family for their version proved futile.
