Harassed for bearing 3 daughters, woman ends life; husband, in-laws booked

Pilibhit: Three members of a family were booked for abetment to suicide on Tuesday evening, days after a 29-year-old woman allegedly ended her life following prolonged physical and mental harassment for giving birth to three daughters in village Bhanpur Handa under Jahanabad police station.Police said the incident took place on Feb 1, following which a case was registered against the woman's husband, Kaushal Patel (33), his elder brother and their father.As per the written complaint filed by the victim's father, Chhatrapal (60), a resident of village Mallpur Kundara in Bareilly, his daughter Pinki Devi was married to Kaushal Patel in Feb 2017. She was allegedly subjected to cruelty after she gave birth to two daughters within four years of marriage. The complainant said the harassment intensified after she gave birth to a third daughter, as her in-laws allegedly wanted a son. Despite repeated attempts by her parents, the dispute could not be resolved.Chhatrapal further alleged that when he rushed to his daughter's house after learning about her death, the accused abused him and attempted to assault him.Jahanabad SHO Pradeep Kumar Vishnoi said Kaushal Patel, his elder brother Yogendra and their father Dal Chandra Patel were booked under BNS sections 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), 108 (abetment to suicide), 131 (assault) and 352 (intentional insult). No arrests have been made so far, he added.
