​Heavy rainfall bring city to standstillErratic power supply, waterlogged roads added to woes

, accompanied by strong winds on Monday brought down the mercury level on one hand, but increased the woes of residents in several parts of the city. Apart from trouble commuters due to waterlogging, several trees and electric polls across the city fell down, disturbing power

supply

in the city and adjoining areas.

At least two dozen locals sustained injuries in various mishaps in the afternoon hours. Majority of injured are undergoing treatment at the district hospital, while few others were rushed to private hospitals.

As per local meteorological department, around 17mm rainfall lashed the city and adjoining areas on Monday afternoon, bringing down the mercury level, thereby giving relief to locals from scorching heat.

Heavy

rainfall caused waterlogging in several areas, including Kuharapeer petrol pump, Model Town, Jatavpura, Beharipur, Madi Nath, Subashnagar and Sanjay Nagar among others.

As per reports, trees came down near commissioner’s office in Civil Lines, inside additional basic education office, near Sahu Ram Swaroop degree college, Shri Krishan Leela Complex, Chawki Chauraha, among others. At majority of places

supply was disturbed after power lines broke down.

Confirming reports, Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited executive engineer, Nandlal, said, “At several places trees fell down and broke down electricity lines, thereby disturbing power supply in various parts of the city. Power officials are working to fix the power supply.”

Over one and half dozen locals sustained injuries after a wall collapsed over mourners at a funeral in Navadiya in Swale Nagar locality, under Quila police station. “Large number of locals were attending a funeral ceremony when a wall collapsed, injuring several relatives of the grieving family. All the injured were rushed to the district hospital where they are undergoing treatment while few others critically injured were rushed to private hospitals,” said Mohd Qasim, inspector Quila police station.

In another incident, a 14-year-old girl sustained serious injuries on her head and face during another wall collapse incident in Kandharpur locality under Cantonment police station.
Another incident was reported in Shanti Vihar colony under Subash nagar police station where a boy fell from a terrace of a single story building during the storm. The victim too was rushed to district hospital and is undergoing treatment.
