BAREILLY: A shikshamitra has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a 9-year-old girl, a class four student, inside classroom at a government primary school in UP's Sambhal. The victim was sent for medico-legal examination on Tuesday.

The child was allegedly asked to stay back after school on Monday. The teacher then bolted the classroom from inside and started touching her inappropriately and attempted to strip her. The girl somehow managed to escape and told her mother about the incident.

Police then registered an FIR against the accused and arrested him on Tuesday while he was attempting to leave Sambhal. The accused has been teaching in government primary school for over five years.

The girl’s father said, “My daughter reached home in tears and narrated her ordeal. Thereafter, we rushed to the school but the shikshamitra had left by then. Then we informed police and lodged a complaint at Sambhal Kotwali police station.”

Circle officer Jitendra Singh said, “Police had immediately registered an FIR under section 354 (attempt to rape) of IPC and the Pocso act.The accused had gone missing but we managed to nab him while he was about to leave Sambhal.”
