Short circuits set off fires in cosmetic shop, export firm
Bareilly: A cosmetic shop was gutted and adjacent shops were damaged in a fire that broke out on Monday night at a super market in Sambhal’s Sadar Kotwali area on Monday night. Though the fire caused loss of property, no lives were lost, firemen said. Fire department officials suspect that a short circuit caused the fire.
Earlier on Monday morning, a fire broke out on the ground floor of an export firm in Moradabad’s Buddhi Vihar area in Majhola and spread to its first floor. As many as 15-20 fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the fire that lasted for around four hours. After initial information, four fire tenders were sent to the spot and later, 15 more tenders were deployed to control the fire that had gutted the ground and first floor of the firm, said fire department officials.
Giving details about of Sambhal fire, chief fire officer Pratap Singh said, “The incident took place around 10 pm on Monday when smoke was seen billowing out of a cosmetic shop located in a posh area under Sadar Kotwali police station. The fire broke out when the shop had closed for the day. Some electronic equipment connected through an inverter had been left on. A short circuit triggered the fire. Two fire tenders were immediately arranged from Chandausi and Sambhal districts. It took around two hours to bring the blaze under control. Shop owner Mohammed Shaan claimed that cosmetic products worth some Rs 2 lakh were destroyed.”
In another incident in Moradabad’s Buddhi Vihar area under Majhola police station, Gulato Overseas Export firm’s ground and first floors were destroyed in a fire during the early hours of Monday morning. Circle officer, Kotwali, Krishnakant along with police personnel rushed to the spot on learning about the incident.
Speaking with TOI, chief fire officer, Moradabad, Mukesh Kumar said, “We received information around 5:30 am following which, seven fire tenders were immediately sent to the area. However, seven firefighters could not handle the situation as the blaze spread from the ground to the first floor. Around 15 more fire tenders were then deputed and the fire was successfully doused after four hours. The accident occurred due to a short-circuit.”
While no casualty occurred in both incidents, property worth lakhs was damaged or destroyed, said officials at the fire department.
