BAREILLY
: A man strangled his wife to death and later surrendered himself at the
SSP
’s residence over suspicions that she was having an extramarital affair. The incident took place in Anupam nagar under Subhash Nagar police station here on Friday evening. An FIR has been registered.
The deceased has been identified as Chaya Verma, 26 and her husband is
Sanjeev Verma
. They were married for six years and have a two-year-old son, Vansh. The couple worked as sales persons at a cloth shop.
Station house officer (SHO) of Subhash Nagar police, Srikant Dwivedi said, “Following the complaint filed by the deceased’s kin against the accused, an FIR has been lodged under sections 304B (Dowry death) and 498A (Husband or relative of husband of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) of the IPC and Dowry act.”
“The accused had threatened to kill his wife over dowry before,” the SHO added.
