According to reports, the victims were en route to a local fair in Yellapura when the accident occurred.

A police officer said that the truck swerved to the extreme left to give way to a vehicle attempting to overtake it around 5.30am. The truck then fell into the valley due to the lack of barrier walls along that stretch of road.

The injured were immediately taken to KIMS Hospital in Hubballi for treatment.

The deceased students were identified as Aryavandan (18), Sucheendra (22), and Abhilash (20), while the driver, Shiva (24), also died in the accident. Ten other passengers were injured and have been admitted to a local hospital.
