4 detained Ugandan women break window grills, escape in Bengaluru
Bengaluru: Four Ugandan women, detained in a private ashram at Kothanur owing to a lack of space in the detention centre, escaped after breaking the window grills, police said.
Topista, Nagawa, Safinah, and Fitina had been arrested from Hennur, Puttenahalli, and Parappana Agrahara police station limits a few months ago on various charges, including drug peddling and illegal stay.
“Due to lack of space at the detention centre and state women’s home, they were placed in a private ashram at Doddagubbi in Kothanur. They were locked in a room located on the second floor of the ashram,” an investigating officer said.
After breaking the window grills, they got down to the ground and escaped in the early morning on May 11, the officer said.
