BENGALURU: Faced with acute embarrassment following a bitter public spat between two senior women officers, the state on Tuesday cracked the whip and shunted out IAS officer Rohini Sindhuri and IPS officer D Roopa from their respective posts without new postings.

Roopa (IPS) vs Rohini (IAS): How the spat turned ugly

After a public spat between two senior women officers, the Karnataka govt on February 21 shunted out Rohini Sindhuri (IAS) and D Roopa (IPS) from their respective posts without new postings.

While Roopa served as managing director at Karnataka State Handicrafts Development Corporation, Rohini was commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (muzrai).

Roopa’s husband, IAS officer Munish Moudgil and four other officers have also been transferred in this round of reshuffle.

Over the past few days, the spat between Rohini and Roopa took a turn for the worse with private pictures making to social media.

The spat started on February 18 after Roopa shared pictures of Rohini on social media and alleged that she had shared the same with several male IAS officers and violated service conduct rules.

Terming the allegations "baseless", Rohini said the screenshots of social-media posts and WhatsApp status were falsely used to scandalize her.

The public spat between Roopa and Rohini turned ugly on February 20, forcing home minister Araga Jnanedra and Union minister Pralhad Joshi expressing displeasure over their conduct.

On Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai’s directive, chief secretary Vandita Sharma on February 20 summoned both officers and warned them of stringent action.

Both Roopa and Rohini have had their share of controversies in different postings they have held.

Ordered action as officers violated service rules: CM
Munish Moudgil, who was commissioner for survey settlement and land records, has been transferred as principal secretary in the department of personnel and administrative reforms. CN Sreedhara is posted in place of Moudgil and Bharathi D replaces Roopa.

The public spat between Roopa and Rohini turned ugly on Monday, forcing home minister Araga Jnanedra and Union minister Pralhad Joshi expressing displeasure over their conduct. On CM Bommai's directive, chief secretary Vandita Sharma on Monday summoned both officers and warned them of stringent action if they continued to violate service rules.

Over the past few days, the spat between Rohini and Roopa took a turn for the worse with private pictures making to social media. Bommai said he has directed the chief secretary to take further action against the officers for violating service rules.

Roopa rose to prominence when she was asked to detain BJP's Uma Bharti while on her way to hoist the tricolour at the controversial Hubballi Idgah Maidan in 1994. As DC, Rohini shot into fame when she took on former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda's son HD Revanna in Hassan. Both have had their share of controversies in different postings they have held.
