Metro expansion roadmap

BMRCL intends to construct an additional nearly 79km of corridor in the next two years to extend Namma Metro from approximately 96km to around 175km. The announcement is made amidst severe criticism regarding delays and is part of the plan to enhance Mass Transit System connectivity within the city.

2/8

Western corridor extension

The Metro corridor along Magadi Road will be extended further to serve commuters from the outskirts. The extension is expected to reduce traffic congestion and improve access to public transport from western suburbs.

3/8

Key corridors progress

Major areas along Namma Metro are beginning to complete after long periods of delay; the elevated and underground portions of key routes will open in phases – allowing for increased travel convenience between many highly populated Residential and Commercial Areas.

4/8

Phase III tenders

Tenders for Phase III of Namma Metro, covering about 45km, are slated to be floated in January 2026. The process was delayed due to design revisions and the need for additional feasibility studies.

5/8

Yellow Line outlook

The Yellow Line is a critical future link for commuters on the major employment corridor and continues to remain a primary focus. Officials have indicated that segments of the Yellow Line will be opened up in segments, improving commuting time for many once services are operational.

6/8

Phased commissioning plan

The introduction of metro services within new corridors will be implemented in phases, rather than all at once. This phased approach will help ease the transition into operation with existing corridors while providing greater opportunities to ensure safety checks and serviceability.

7/8

Big gains in 2026

Approximately 41km of new Namma Metro lines are likely to have been opened by 2026, representing a significant addition to the network on a yearly basis and relieving extreme pressure from commuter traffic on city streets.

8/8

Suburban expansion plans

Feasibility studies are under way to extend Namma Metro to peripheral areas such as Bidadi, Nelamangala, Devanahalli and Hoskote, indicating a long-term push to connect the city with its rapidly growing suburbs.
