Bengaluru’s first double-decker flyover nears full opening

The city’s first double-decker flyover, built by Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), is set to fully open for motorists soon. The structure was constructed as part of the Namma Metro Yellow Line corridor and aims to improve traffic movement along the busy Hosur Road stretch.

2/10

Remaining 3.5 km stretch to open by March end

BMRCL is preparing to open the remaining 3.5-km stretch of the flyover from Silk Board junction to Ragigudda by the end of March. Once operational, the entire corridor will provide smoother travel along one of Bengaluru’s most congested traffic routes.

3/10

Road laying work completed, final touches underway

According to BMRCL officials, carriageway works, including road laying, have been completed. Remaining finishing works are expected to be wrapped up by March 22 before the flyover is opened for vehicular movement after obtaining clearance from traffic police.

4/10

Traffic movement planned from HSR Layout to Ragigudda

Once approvals are received, the flyover will open for vehicles travelling from HSR Layout towards Ragigudda. This stretch is expected to help streamline traffic movement and reduce delays for motorists commuting through the area.

5/10

One side of flyover opened in June 2024

In June 2024, authorities opened one side of the double-decker flyover from Ragigudda to Silk Board, including a ramp built above the Silk Board flyover junction. The opening took place without much fanfare at the time.

6/10

Earlier opening helped motorists skip Silk Board signal

The earlier opening of nearly 5 km of the flyover allowed motorists heading towards HSR Layout and Bommanahalli on Hosur Road to bypass the traffic signal at Silk Board junction, improving travel time for commuters using the corridor.

7/10

Multiple deadlines missed due to project delays

BMRCL had previously announced several deadlines for opening the parallel stretch from the HSR Layout side to Ragigudda. However, delays occurred due to design changes, traffic restrictions, heavy rainfall and other project constraints.

8/10

Partial opening already reduced traffic pressure

Traffic police officials said the partial opening of the double-decker flyover had already helped ease congestion at Silk Board junction. The complete opening is expected to further reduce traffic pressure in the area.

9/10

Traffic beyond Ragigudda may still be a challenge

While congestion at Silk Board junction may ease, officials said traffic management beyond Ragigudda Metro Station could remain challenging. Marenahalli Road and nearby connecting roads are already prone to heavy traffic congestion.

10/10

Key areas expected to benefit from new stretch

Once the Silk Board to Ragigudda stretch opens, vehicles heading towards BTM Layout, Jayanagar, JP Nagar and Banashankari are expected to benefit. Currently, heavy traffic congestion often builds up below Silk Board junction.
