ORR main carriageway set for major concretisation work

The main carriageway of Bengaluru’s Outer Ring Road (Silk Board to KR Pura) will be dug up and converted into 190mm-thick concrete stretch as part of a Rs 378-crore redevelopment project, officials said. The work is expected to significantly alter the corridor.

17.1 km tech corridor to be rebuilt in two phases

The ORR upgrade covers 17.1km from Silk Board to KR Pura, divided into Silk Board–Iblur (5.4km) and Iblur–KR Pura (11.6km). The project also includes junction upgrades across six major intersections along the corridor.

3/7

Major disruption expected on Bengaluru tech corridor

The ORR stretch, used by over eight lakh commuters daily and housing 450 IT firms, is expected to face severe disruption. Dug-up roads, lane restrictions, and congestion are likely during the concretisation phase.

4/7

Service roads to be upgraded first for traffic management

As part of traffic planning, service roads including drains, utilities, and footpaths will be completed first. Traffic will then be diverted to service roads before main carriageway work begins, officials said.

5/7

Additional upgrades: Footpaths, lighting, drainage planned

The project includes Rs 48.4 crore for service roads, Rs 17.4 crore for footpaths, Rs 16.7 crore for street lighting, and Rs 9.8 crore for drainage improvements, along with cycle tracks and utility ducts.

6/7

Rs 108 crore allocated for main road concretisation

According to DPR, the concretisation of the main carriageway and junction improvements account for Rs 108 crore of the Rs 378-crore project, making it the largest component of the ORR redevelopment plan.

7/7

Year-long ORR work expected to begin soon

Officials from B-Smile said the tendering process is in final stages with financial bids underway. Though completion is targeted in one year, efforts are being made to finish the project in nine months, with work expected to begin shortly.
