Bengaluru suicide case: Anticipatory bail for uncle of Atul Subhash’s wife

The Allahabad high court on Monday transit anticipatory bail until Jan 2 to Sushil Singhania, whose niece Nikita Singhania is in judicial custody for allegedly driving her husband – 34-year-old automobile techie Atul Subhash – to suicide a week ago in Bengaluru.

Atul left behind a video and a handwritten note detailing his alleged harassment at the hands of his wife and in-laws, who are from UP's Jaunpur. Justice Ashutosh Srivastava passed the anticipatory bail order after Sushil's counsel questioned the authenticity of Atul's purported suicide note. He also wanted to know why the family court judge had been "spared" by investigators despite Atul mentioning him in the note. Counsel representing Atul's brother, the complainant in the case filed in Bengaluru, argued against granting anticipatory bail by citing what he said was a "specific allegation" against Nikita's uncle. In the video Atul recorded before he died by suicide, he purportedly accuses Sushil of harassing him for money.

Sushil's bail period will end the day courts reopen after the winter vacation.
