Proposal for Bengaluru-Goa Vande Bharat Service

The South Western Railway, Southern Railway, and Konkan Railway Corporation have proposed a Vande Bharat train between Yeswanthpur and Madgaon, aiming to offer a faster and more modern travel option for passengers on this popular route.

2/10

Proposed Departure and Arrival Timings

The train is planned to depart Yeswanthpur at 6:05 am and reach Madgaon by 7:15 pm, covering the journey in just over 12 hours, significantly reducing travel time compared to existing services.

3/10

Intermediate Stoppages

The proposed Vande Bharat service would have four scheduled stops: Hassan, Sakleshpur, Subrahmanya Road, and Padil, balancing speed with accessibility for passengers at key towns along the route.

4/10

Planned Frequency of Service

According to the proposal, the train would operate six days a week, providing frequent connectivity between Bengaluru and Goa, ensuring regular service for both business and leisure travellers along this corridor.

5/10

Comparison with Existing Trains

Currently, the Yeswanthpur–Vasco da Gama Express takes nearly 15 hours to cover 700 km. The proposed Vande Bharat service aims to save time while providing a modern and comfortable travel experience.

6/10

Timetable Flexibility

While a detailed tentative timetable has been proposed, it could change, as the Railway Board has asked zones to consider a later start after 6:30 am, highlighting adjustments may be needed for operational feasibility.

7/10

Terminal Station Considerations

Although KSR Bengaluru is the preferred starting station, a lack of maintenance slots has been noted. Hence, Yeswanthpur has been suggested as the terminal for operational convenience and maintenance efficiency.

8/10

Requirement of Two Train Sets

Given the long distance between Bengaluru and Madgaon, the service would require two Vande Bharat rakes running simultaneously to maintain the schedule and ensure smooth operations along the route.

9/10

Speed Limitations on Ghat Sections

Even though Vande Bharat trains are capable of cruising above 160 kmph, the average speed for this route is expected to be under 50 kmph, dropping to 30 kmph in ghat sections due to track and terrain constraints.

10/10

Pending Approval and Final Decisions

The Railway Board has not yet finalised the stoppages or issued any official coaching notification. The South Western Railway has submitted its inputs and is awaiting a final decision on the project.
