Bengaluru civic body to widen 8 roads for Rs 100 crore
Bengaluru: In a bid to find a long-term solution to the traffic congestion issue and meet the infrastructure requirements for the increasing vehicular density in the outlying areas of Bengaluru, BBMP has decided to widen eight roads, including six in Yelahanka zone alone.Civic officials have prepared a Rs 100-crore action plan, which has been recently approved by the administration. "We will widen six roads in Yelahanka zone, and most of them connect to Kempegowda International Airport (KIA)," said an official.According to officials, BBMP will spend Rs 50 crore initially to carry out preparatory works for the widening projects. They will spend the amount on preparing the detailed project report, land acquisition, demolition of structures on the roadside, and re-asphalting of the existing width. Later, the Palike will spend Rs 50 crore more to develop the widened road fully. The BBMP has proposed these road widening works in its 2024-25 budget.Karthiknagar ORR closedTraffic police have closed a portion of Karthiknagar Outer Ring Road (ORR) in east Bengaluru as a solution to decongest traffic along the stretch. The restrictions will be imposed from Monday. Commuters travelling towards Whitefield – Kundalahalli Gate from Marathahalli bridge side have to take a U-turn near Karthiknagar junction and drive further.The motorists travelling towards Jeevika Hospital and Chinnappanahalli from Marathahalli bridge side can travel via Karthiknagar and take a U-turn at Doddanekkundi junction. They can then travel via Karthiknagar service road towards Jeevika Hospital and Chinnappanahalli. The changes will be in place until further orders.
