City’s first double-decker nears full opening

Bengaluru’s first double-decker flyover between Central Silk Board and Ragigudda is expected to become fully operational by March, marking a major milestone in the city’s long-delayed traffic decongestion efforts at one of its busiest junctions.

2/10

Last stretch to open by February

BMRCL plans to complete the remaining section—from the HSR Layout side to BTM Layout—by February. Once ready, the elevated road will be opened to the public after coordination with traffic police.

3/10

Girder work completed, finishing underway

All steel girders across the Silk Board flyover have been successfully launched. Deck slab casting, finishing work and allied construction activities are currently in progress to prepare the stretch for traffic.

4/10

One carriageway already functional

In July 2024, BMRCL opened the Ragigudda-to-Silk Board stretch of the double-decker flyover for around 5km. However, the opposite carriageway remained shut due to construction and clearance delays.

5/10

Delays pushed original deadline

The Silk Board-to-Ragigudda stretch was initially scheduled to open by December 2025. Design changes, traffic police approvals and complex girder-launching operations slowed progress.

6/10

Major relief for HSR–BTM commuters

Once opened, the new stretch will benefit motorists travelling from HSR Layout towards BTM Layout via the down ramp and those heading from HSR Layout to Ragigudda on the elevated road.

7/10

From delays to daily joggers

Construction began in 2019, but prolonged delays kept the road unopened for years. During this period, residents famously used the incomplete elevated stretch for jogging and morning walks.

8/10

Not all traffic will bypass junction

Vehicles moving from Hosur Road towards HSR Layout and those heading from HSR Layout to Madiwala will still need to pass through the Silk Board junction, officials clarified.

9/10

Project linked to Yellow Line Metro

The double-decker flyover is part of the Yellow Line Metro project. The Jayadeva flyover was demolished to facilitate construction and build an interchange Metro station at the junction.

10/10

Silk Board congestion set to ease further

Traffic police say congestion beneath the Silk Board flyover has already reduced after the partial opening. Full commissioning is expected to further smoothen traffic flow, though signals at the junction will remain.
