BSWML reclaims 5 acres of encroached land worth Rs 80 crore near Kogilu Bande
BENGALURU: Bengaluru Solid Waste Management Limited (BSWML) on Saturday cleared encroachments on nearly five acres of land near Kogilu Bande in north Bengaluru and took possession of the property, which has an estimated market value of ₹80 crore.
BSWML chief executive officer Kareegowda said the land, located in Survey No. 99 of Kogilu village in Yelahanka hobli, had been earmarked for solid waste management infrastructure. Of the total 14 acres and 36 guntas available at the site, about five acres had been illegally occupied with more than 150 temporary sheds and houses.
A coordinated operation involving BSWML, police, Fire and Emergency Services, the North City Corporation, the Revenue Department, the Bangalore Metropolitan Task Force (BMTF) and marshals was carried out to remove the encroachments. Officials said 9 tractors and 9 JCB machines were deployed, and over 150 unauthorised structures were demolished during the drive.
According to BSWML, the government guidance value of the reclaimed land is about ₹15 crore, while its current market value is estimated at ₹80 crore. The land will now be used to set up facilities including a biomethanation plant, animal rendering and incineration units, a tender coconut waste processing unit and a sanitary waste processing facility.
BSWML officials said the operation safeguarded government property worth several crores and would help expedite planned waste management projects in the area. Senior officials, including the chief operations officer and departmental heads, were present during the clearance drive.
