Cauvery row: Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation lost Rs 22 crore in Tamil Nadu sector

BENGALURU: In the 22 days since riots broke out, bus services between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu have been hit. And Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), which pulled buses off the busy route between the two states on September 5, has lost Rs22 crore. The corporation plans to begin operations to Tamil Nadu from next week, depending on the law and order situation after Tuesday's hearing on the issue.

Vishwanath K S, general manager (traffic operations), KSRTC, said: "Our buses take people to the checkpost at Attibele on Hosur Road, Kanakapura Road and near Bandipur from Chamarajanagar.From there, people walk into Tamil Nadu. Buses from TN also stop at the checkposts."

BNS Reddy, director (vigilance), KSRTC, said operations might resume from next week. "We have spoken to the top cop and he has assured us that our buses and passengers will be safe. We are waiting for the SC verdict on Tuesday. If law and order is under control, we can resume operations next week. The revenue loss amounts to Rs22 crore," he said.

On Monday, KSRTC inducted 380 Sarige buses to villages and district headquarters, said transport minister

. "In all, 1,594 new buses will be inducted in KSRTC by March 2017, and 6,000 new buses will be introduced in all four corporations," he said.
