DK Shivakumar turns tables on BJP, asks Ashoka to examine Bengaluru’s tunnel road project
Bengaluru: Amid rising political heat and public debate over the proposed tunnel road project, DCM DK Shivakumar Saturday said he is willing to form a committee headed by opposition leader R Ashoka to address concerns and arrive at a consensus on the project's execution. With Ashoka deciding to stage a protest at Lalbagh Botanical Garden Sunday, Shivakumar took on the senior BJP functionary, stating the govt is open to redesigning the entry-exit points, including the one near Lalbagh, as suggested by Ashoka himself.Soon after Rajyotsava celebrations on Saturday, Shivakumar told mediapersons that the project shouldn't become a matter of confrontation. "There is no need for Ashoka to protest at Lalbagh. He is from Bengaluru and has represented the city seven to eight times. I am ready to form a committee under his leadership to guide the govt on this issue. Let him examine the project and give suggestions," Shivakumar said, indicating the govt is also ready to include any BJP MLA, including Malleshwaram's CN Ashwath Narayan, recommended by Ashoka. The tunnel road — intended to ease traffic congestion — has triggered controversy with opposition parties and environmental groups raising concerns over cost, feasibility and possible ecological impact, especially around Lalbagh and surrounding heritage zones. With political tempers flaring, Shivakumar's latest outreach is seen as an attempt to diffuse tension and bring BJP on board.Reiterating the govt's willingness to explore alternatives, Shivakumar said he inspected the proposed alignment near Lalbagh late Friday night. "I am looking into alternative routes. There is no need for panic or misunderstanding. We will plan the entry and exit points in a way that benefits the city and its citizens," the minister added.

Why government is deciding what is to be done for the city . Why they cannot form a committee only consisting of well informed and citizens of this city with knowledge on city planning and professional to decide and recommend long term requirement for the city. DKS may or may not stay beyond next election. It's public participation to take the call.Read allPost comment
