BENGALURU: In the backdrop of deputy chief minister DK Shivakumar’s instructions to civic officials to monitor Indira Canteens, BBMP chief commissioner Tushar Giri Nath visited one on Ballari Road and the other at Vishwanatha Nagenahalli on Wednesday morning.

He tasted the food and instructed officials to provide better lighting facilities, washbasins and drinking water at the canteens.

Giri Nath and his team visited the canteen in Hebbal ward on Ballari Road and collected details of its management and food quality. He asked officials to install adequate number of electric bulbs and repair the washbasin. He also noticed the toilet was locked and asked the staff to open it for the public.

When some customers complained to Giri Nath that they get only rice items, he instructed officials to change the menu.

At the canteen in Vishwanatha Nagenahalli near Hebbal-Kempapura, he asked officials to repair the stairs and install a new nameboard.
