BENGALURU: Karnataka clinched the limited overs series against Namibia with a match to spare at the Wanderers Cricket Ground, Windhoek, on Friday. With a five-wicket win in the fourth outing, Karnataka took a 3-1 lead in the five-match series.

Karnataka rode on useful contributions from most batters and an all-round performance from Nikin Jose. The 22-year-old scored 56 runs after claiming two wickets with his off-spin.

Invited to bat, the hosts’ charge was led by skipper Jan Frylinck, who struck a 124-ball 109 (8x4; 3x6) to guide his team to 253/7. In reply, Karnataka overhauled the target with 17 balls to spare. Skipper R Samarth, who dropped down the order, completed the chase with an unbeaten 56 (55b; 7x4).

Earlier, Karnataka were guilty of letting Namibia off the hook after a promising start. By the fourth over, the hosts were reduced to 17/3 before Nikolaas Davin (30) and Frylinck figured in a 66-run partnership for the fourth wicket.

Michau du Preez (41) and Frylinck were dismissed in the 42nd over and at 198/6 Namibia bounced back again.

Brief scores: Namibia: 253/7 in 50 overs (Nikolaas Davin 30, Jan Frylinck 109, Michau du Preez 41, Zane Green 27; Nikin Jose 2/30) lost to Karnataka: 256/5 in 47.1 overs (Chethan LR 47, Nikin Jose 56, K Siddharth 26, Kruthik Krishna 32, R Samarth 56 n.o, Shubhang Hegde 30 n.o; Ben Shikongo 2-52).
