Karnataka shocker: Congress worker killed in Chikkamagaluru group clash; probe underway

CHIKKAMAGALURU: Congress workers held a flash protest here Saturday following the murder of party worker and panchayat member Ganesh Gowda.

Gowda, 38, was hacked to death on Kalmaradi Mutt Road while he was travelling alone in a car late Friday. Police have detained four accused. Two of them, Mithun and Sanjay, have been hospitalised with injuries, SP Vikram Amathe said, adding that four teams were trying to crack the case.

According to sources, before the murder, a clash had erupted between Gowda and a few others over the removal of a banner erected on the occasion of Datta Jayanti. Following the incident, Congress party workers had staged a protest.

District in-charge minister K J George visited family members of the victim. He said a probe is on. MLA KS Anand claimed eight people were involved in what looked like a planned attack on Gowda. He alleged the police had failed to prevent the clashes between the two group. tnn
