BENGALURU: Caretaker chief minister Basavaraj Bommai on Thursday said BJP will call a meeting of incumbent party MLAs and those who lost in the May 10 elections. The meeting will decide the name of the next opposition leader.

He said the party has been conducting a postmortem on its defeat. “We have accepted the electoral defeat with humility and are conducting a postmortem of it at various levels. In the next two to three days, the party will hold talks with present and defeated MLAs,” Bommai told media.

The caretaker CM said BJP has no dearth of senior functionaries and blamed their loss on lack of outreach for its schemes in few constituencies. “The Congress also had an edge in preparing early for campaign vis-a-vis ours,” he said, adding BJP hasn’t lost its self-belief of regrouping to mount a challenge in the next elections. “In the meantime, we will work as a responsible opposition,” he said.
