NEW DELHI: A man and his two children were found dead in Gonakanahalli village, Hoskote taluk, Bengaluru Rural district, on Friday.
The man’s wife, Manjula, survived and is currently in police custody.
The deceased, identified as Shivu, had suffered an accident several years ago and mostly stayed at home. According to police, the family was facing financial difficulties.
Here’s what happened
The couple had reportedly discussed suicide but were reluctant to leave their children behind.
They strangled their 11-year-old daughter, Chandrakala, before holding her head under water to confirm her death.
The same method was then used on their seven-year-old son, Uday Surya.
Manjula later attempted to hang herself. Shivu, who was unwell, reportedly asked her to buy food.
When she returned, she found that he had hanged himself. She then tried to contact her father and, when unsuccessful, sought help from a neighbour.
The neighbour alerted locals, who informed the police.
Police have registered a case and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
