BENGALURU: A 26-year-old woman was charred to death, three people suffered injuries in the fire and over 25 electric scooters were destroyed in a fire that broke out at an electric vehicle showroom on Dr Rajkumar Road in Rajajinagar here on Tuesday evening.
The woman was identified as the showroom's accounts executive, Priya A, a resident of Okalipuram. The accident occurred around 5.30pm at MY EV Store, located on the ground floor of the three-storey building, near Navrang Bar Junction. Police suspect it was triggered by a short circuit in an electric scooter in the store.
There were six persons, including a child who had come with his family to check out a scooter, in the store when the fire broke out. While all of them rushed out of the showroom in the nick of time, a panic-stricken Priya reportedly rushed towards the cashier's room and locked herself in a cabin. With the fire spreading, Priya got trapped and died of asphyxiation. She suffered burns too.
Four fire tenders were pressed into action, and fire personnel battled hard to contain the fire from spreading to neighbouring buildings. A few residents said they heard explosions, reportedly triggered by batteries of the vehicles parked inside the showroom. The fire was put out by 6.30pm.
