BHOPAL: Traffic police on Wednesday put up a temporary divider between a mall in MP Nagar and Gurudev Gupta crossing, where the divider was flattened owing to construction activities in the area. The divider is to check commuters crossing over to the wrong side to reach the mall on the ther end of the road rather than taking the slightly longer route to Board Office crossing and taking a U-turn to get to the mall.
The agency constructing the flyover in the area had flattened the road divider to allow its heavy vehicles bringing building materials to move around freely. However, removal of the divider had led to a constant traffic chaos in the area as the vehicles were entering the other side of the road from the wrong side to get to the mall, leading to traffic jams and risking accidents.
The problem aggravated on weekends as the traffic heading to the mall swelled and many of them took the "shortcut" to reach the mall putting the entire traffic of the road into chaos.
When TOI raised the issue with DCP (Traffic) Hansraj Singh, the other day, he had assured to take adequate measures to solve the problem. Now, a temporary divider made of tin has been set up on the flattened portion of the road divider to check the menace.
The construction agency has also posted a security guard at the site, Mishra, told TOI, stating that now the problem has been successfully solved. Earlier, he had to struggle to stop the vehicle from entering the wrong lane just to take a shortcut to reach the mall entry. On many occasions, the people on board their luxury cars and SUVs snubbed him for stopping them. Their "callous" conduct resulted in traffic jams in the area, especially during peak traffic hours and weekends.
Jitendra Yadav, who runs a handcart beside the mall entry, said that a major problem has been solved after the divider has been set up. But, he pointed out that at another point on the divider in front of the mall, a police barricade kept to stop people from entering into the mall is removed by some two-wheeler riders to get into the mall. The work of the flyover towards the Board Office is stalled for a long time now. The tin sheds put up by the roadside to cover the space of construction should be removed to widen the road till the construction work resumes, he suggested.
