: Unable to repay a loan due to successive crop failure a 75-year old debt ridden farmer allegedly committed suicide in Shahdol district of
Madhya Pradesh
on Saturday.
Spate of suicides is haunting Madhya Pradesh and more than 50 farmers have committed suicide in the state since June 6, when five farmers were killed in police firing.
The incident took place at Kodarwar village under Singhpur police station of the district. Police though suspects that it is a case of natural death, however the kin have produced a suicide note reportedly written by the deceased before ending life.
The deceased farmer has been identified as Sudarshan Singh Solanki who was also an advocate. Solanki owned 7 acre of land.
Solanki died under mysterious condition, and police registered a case and then handed over the body to the kin after autopsy. However the kin later produced a suicide note written by the deceased.
In the note, reportedly written by the deceased he has said that he has taken loan from
Bank of Maharasthra
for farming but was not able to repay the loan due to drought like situations for several consecutive years, thus he is taking the extreme step and no one should be held responsible for it.
When contacted over the issue, SP Shahdol, Sushant Saxena said, “Prima facie it seems to be a case of natural death. However, forensic investigations of the documents that were produced by the kin are being conducted. Investigations in the case are on”.
