Anurag Jain takes charge as chief secy of MP
Bhopal: Anurag Jain, a 1989 batch Indian Administrative Service officer, took charge as the 35th chief secretary of Madhya Pradesh at the secretariat on Thursday. Jain was on deputation with the union govt. On Wednesday evening, he reached Bhopal and took charge of office the next day.Soon after taking charge, Jain held a meeting with all senior IAS officers in the secretariat, which lasted for two and a half hours,where he interacted with all department heads and listed his priorities.Jain asked officials to deliver results in a time-bound manner and stressed on the use of technology and transparency in the working of officials.The atmosphere in the secretariat changed noticeably since morning. From security and cleanliness in the secretariat buildings to the officials arriving on time and remaining seated during office hours, the change was evident.The long meeting by the chief secretary immediately after taking charge further sent a clear message to the bureaucracy.Anurag Jain was appointed chief secretary of MP on September 30 and will remain in service until August 25. Veera Rana, who was serving as chief secretary until last month, was on a six-month extension and retired on September 30. Jain is the senior-most IAS official of the MP cadre after Rana.Jain was on the govt of India deputation from 2020. He was serving as secretary, GOI, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, New Delhi.The selection of Jain for the post of chief secretary indicated that the union govt wanted someone trusted by both the centre and state govts for the top post in MP. The new chief secretary, Jain, has wide experience of working in the centre as well as in the state. In the coming days, it will become clear how his experience benefits the state.
