Bhopal: Forty CNG public transport buses will be flagged off in Bhopal on Friday.
Bhopal mayor Malti Rai, medical education minister Vishwas Sarang, MLA Rameshwar Sharma and MLA Krishna Gaur are expected to attend the inauguration of the service. In the first phase, 40 CNG buses under AMRUT scheme will commence operation. These are 38-seater buses. Overall, 275 new buses will be added to the BCLL fleet — the current strength of which is 220 buses. At the start of the BRTS corridor around 2011, introducing CNG buses was a missed opportunity for Bhopal — and has been long awaited. CNG is considered to a greener alternative to diesel.
However, there are more environment friendly options available besides CNG, say experts.
CNG is a cleaner fuel as compared to petrol and diesel.
