Birth on board: Woman delivers baby on moving train near Gwalior with help from co-passengers

BHOPAL: A woman gave birth to a baby on a moving train near Gwalior on Tuesday night, with no medical assistance — only the help of fellow female passengers.

According to reports, Roshni, a resident of Mathura in Uttar Pradesh, was travelling to Damoh on the Gondwana Express when she went into labour between 3 and 4 am, shortly before the train reached Gwalior station.

As it was impossible to get her to a hospital in time, three to four women travelling in the same coach stepped in and helped her deliver the baby. Passengers even vacated a section of the compartment to give space for the delivery.

As the train arrived at Gwalior, RPF’s women personnel rushed both the mother and the newborn to the hospital, where doctors told the media they were healthy.
