Burnt dog carcass sparks outrage

Jabalpur: The recovery of charred remains of a stray dog near Yadgar Chowk in Jabalpur sparked outrage among animal lovers, who alleged the animal may have been set on fire before police could conduct a medico-legal investigation.

The burnt carcass was found in an open garbage pile in the Cantonment police station area on Friday. Activists suspect drunkards or miscreants may have burnt the dog alive and demanded registration of an FIR for animal cruelty.

They alleged that before police could begin a preliminary inquiry, Cantonment Board workers removed the carcass from the spot, complicating efforts to determine the cause of death. Cantonment police station in-charge Pushpendra Patel said police had sought details from the Cantonment Board regarding the carcass. “Once the remains are located, a panchnama and post-mortem will be conducted. Further action will depend on the autopsy findings,” he said.

The incident triggered protests outside the police station, with activists demanding strict action. Police said an FIR would be registered if the post-mortem confirms the dog died after being set on fire
