Case against in-laws, hubby for abetment, casteist abuse in woman’s suicide

Bhopal: After a 30-year-old woman died by suicide, a case was registered on Tuesday against her husband and her in-laws on charges of casteist abuse, cruelty and abetment of suicide. The deceased woman, belonging to a scheduled caste, had filed a complaint against her in-laws prior to the suicide, cops said. SHO Bilkhiria Umesh Singh Chouhan said that approximately four months ago, on Aug 6, the woman, Sauram Malviya, 30 ended her life by hanging herself in her home. During the investigation into the suspicious death, it was revealed that her in-laws often subjected her to casteist abuse. Additionally, her husband, Mahesh, allegedly expressed his desire to separate from her. Sauram's family members also alleged that she was constantly humiliated and mentally tortured by her in-laws, which led her to take this extreme step.SHO Chouhan said that the deceased, hailed from Ichhawar in Sehore district. She married Mahesh Puri in a love marriage nine years ago. Initially, both families opposed the union but later accepted it. Sauram lived in Kokta Multi, Transport Nagar, in the Bilkhiria locality. She was a homemaker, while her husband Mahesh Puri worked in a private job at Vallabh Bhavan.SHO Chouhan said that Sauram previously filed a complaint against her in-laws at the Mahila Thana regarding harassment. Following statements from Sauram's family during the investigation, the police registered a case against her husband, Mahesh Puri, and other family members, including Jeevan Puri, Madan Puri, Ajab Puri, and Dinesh Puri. The probe has begun under the relevant sections of the BNS and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act
