Cry for suspension of professor jailed on molest charge

: Students of Benazir College have demanded suspension of

professor

Rajesh Khare, who was

jailed

for allegedly molesting a 15-year-old girl. Khare was sent to jail on Tuesday. Students protested against the chemistry professor on the campus and demanded his immediate suspension.


The survivor, employed at the accused’s house 15 days back, alleged that the professor had grabbed her and molested her while she was working at his house. She raised an alarm and somehow managed to flee from the accused’s house, said police. The survivor narrated the incident to her mother and approached

police station.

Acting on the complaint, cops registered a case under relevant sections of IPC and POCSO against the professor. Students said that such a teacher should not be allowed to enter the campus. “What kind of lessons will he give to us. I am not able to understand why the college is not taking action against him even after three days of the incident,” said a student.

When contacted, principal Prof Vibha Shukla said students submitted a memorandum against Prof Khare. “I have forwarded the memorandum to the higher education department. I have no right to take any action against him,” she said.

Regarding the January incident, a student leader had alleged that a senior teaching faculty had made objectionable remarks against her. “The incident took place on January 11. The professor in presence of students commented that I always mingle with boys and do not attend classes.” She also alleged the professor was troubling her for a long time. “His attitude towards girls is not good,” she added.
