The PIL filed by Anshu Mishra, a resident of Katni district, said that order for supply of CT scan machines for 9 districts, including Katni, was placed with a Delhi-based firm in 2018 but these machines have not been installed at any of the districts. The petitioner pointed out that during the coronavirus pandemic, CT scan has become all the more important to know the extent of infection in the lungs. But, in the absence of CT scan machines in district hospitals, people have to shell out thousands to get the scan done. Taking exception to inordinate delay in installation of CT scan machines in the districts of Katni, Mandla, Ratlam, Balaghat, Mansaur, Shajapur, Dhar, Khandwa and Shahdol for which the order was placed in 2018, the court had ordered installation of these machines in the hospitals in question and also action against persons responsible for the delay in supply. In the earlier hearing of the petition, counsel for state government had apprised the court that state government arranges for CT scan of persons who have Deendayal, Ayushman or BPL cards free of cost while persons from

families are charged Rs 932 for it.

During the hearing, the court was informed that CT scan machines in 5 of the 9 districts have been installed. In the 4 remaining districts, it could not be installed because of second wave of coronavirus and request was made for 2 more months to do it. Advocate general also told the court that except for Niwari district, CT scan machines would be installed at district hospitals in rest of the 51 districts of the state in next five months.
