Khandwa election results 2024 live updates: BJP's Gyaneshwar Patil wins
NEW DELHI: Khandwa Lok Sabha constituency is one of the 29 constituencies in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh. Established in 1957, this constituency covers the entire Burhanpur district and parts of Dewas, Khandwa, and Khargone districts. The election for the Khandwa seat took place on May 13, 2024, during the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections, with a voter turnout of 71.52%.

The key candidates for the 2024 election are Gyaneswar Patil from the BJP and Narendra Patel from the INC. In the 2021 by-election, necessitated by the death of Nandkumar Singh Chauhan due to COVID-19, Gyaneswar Patil of the BJP won with 632,455 votes (49.85%), while Raj Narayan Singh Purni of the INC secured 550,315 votes (43.38%).
The current political scenario sees the BJP leveraging its organizational strength and the legacy of Nandkumar Singh Chauhan, while the Congress aims to reclaim its past influence in the region. Key issues in the constituency include development, unemployment, and communal harmony, which are central to the campaigns of both major parties.

In the 2019 general elections, Nandkumar Singh Chauhan of the BJP won with 838,909 votes (57.14%), defeating Arun Subash Chandra Yadav of the INC, who received 565,566 votes (38.52%). Similarly, in the 2014 elections, Nandkumar Singh Chauhan secured a victory with 717,357 votes (57.04%), while Arun Subash Chandra Yadav garnered 457,643 votes (36.39%).
Gyaneshwar Patil from the Bharatiya Janata Party emerged victorious, securing 862,679 votes, which is 269,971 more than the runner-up. Narendra Patel from the Indian National Congress came in second place with 592,708 votes, trailing the winner by 269,971 votes.
Munnalal S/O Dhannalal Teji from the Bahujan Samaj Party received 11,818 votes, which is 850,861 less than the winner. Abhinesh Singh from the Rashtriya Jan Awaz Party obtained 9,299 votes, falling short of the winner by 853,380 votes. Laxmi Narayan Katare, an independent candidate, secured 4,905 votes, which is 857,774 less than the winner.
Manoj Kumar Vishwambharnath Agrawal, another independent candidate, received 4,347 votes, trailing the winner by 858,332 votes. Mahesh Pawar from the Peoples Party of India (Democratic) obtained 3,709 votes, which is 858,970 less than the winner. Shivam Sen, an independent candidate, secured 3,481 votes, falling short of the winner by 859,198 votes. Ravindra Sonvane, another independent candidate, received 2,685 votes, which is 859,994 less than the winner. Prakash Rathor Banjara from the Aam Janta Party (India) obtained 2,370 votes, trailing the winner by 860,309 votes. Narayan Sukhadev Pal from the Bharatiya Yuva Jan Ekta Party secured 1,702 votes, which is 860,977 less than the winner. The "None of the Above" option received 12,839 votes, which is 849,840 less than the winner.
Khandwa has seen a keen contest between the BJP and the Congress over the years. Nandkumar Chauhan of the BJP has been the most successful MP from this seat, winning five elections in 1996, 1998, 1999, 2004, and making a comeback in 2014 after a defeat in 2009. Historically, the BJP has won this seat six times, while the Congress has won it seven times, reflecting a competitive political landscape.
