JABALPUR: Two gunmen shot dead a security guard and injured two other people and looted around Rs 30 lakh from an
ATM
cash refilling team in Jabalpur on Friday.
Police have no clue to the identity of the robbers and have announced a Rs 30,000 reward for information to help solve the crime. One of the robbers, his faced covered, was already inside the Bank of Maharashtra ATM in Bilahari locality when the refill team arrived, said CSP Alok Sharma.
"When cashier Raj Bahadur Singh and security company employee Shreyans Tamrakar entered the ATM with cash, the man lurking there fired at them and snatched the cash box. By the time security guard Raj Bahadur Patel could get into action, he was shot by another youth, who was standing outside the ATM on a motorcycle," said Sharma.
The robbers fired at least six shots. Hearing the bullets and screams, cash van driver Vikash Yadav got out of his vehicle and ran to his colleagues' aid but the duo sped away with the cash box on a motorcycle. "All the injured were rushed to hospital, where doctors declared guard Raj Bahadur Patel dead. The other two are out of danger," the CSP said.
The robbers made off with more than Rs 30 lakh, said Sharma. Police are scanning CCTV footage of the ATM, Bilahari locality and roads in the vicinity to track the duo.
“The entire city has been put on alert. Police teams are looking for the robbers. Six bullet shells have been recovered from the spot,” he added. Police announced a reward of Rs 30,000 on Saturday for information on the crime. SP Siddharth Bahuguna said, “So far, no information is available regarding the accused. A dozen police teams have been deployed. We are looking for the suspects in nearby districts”.
