Madhya Pradesh govt suspends 9 cops over custodial death in Gurgaon
BHOPAL: Madhya Pradesh government suspended the entire nine-member team of ATS in a late night development on Thursday in connection with the death of 23-year-old Himanshu, who reportedly jumped from the third floor of a building after being rounded up for questioning in Sohna area of Gurgram in Haryana.

His family alleges that procedural norms were violated during the investigation, and they accuse the MPATS of illegal detention and mistreatment of Himanshu. The action was said to be based on inputs related to cross border money laundering activities.
According to media reports, Himanshu’s family claims that he was detained without an arrest warrant and held at a hotel near the Sohna police station. When the family arrived in Sohna on Wednesday, they said they were not informed of his detention and were not allowed to communicate with his friends. His relatives believe that the MPATS’s actions led to his death.
Himanshu's relatives stated that Himanshu was preparing to join the Bihar Police and had recently moved to Gurgaon to pursue his career aspirations. They allege that Himanshu’s detention was unlawful and that he was held without any formal arrest procedure or legal basis. However, the Madhya Pradesh ATS maintains that Himanshu’s detention was part of an ongoing investigation linked to the terror funding case, based on strong intelligence inputs.
“We are fully cooperating with the Haryana police and a judicial inquiry is underway. We will provide all necessary evidence,” said an MPATS officer. Additionally, a senior ATS officer confirmed that an internal inquiry would be conducted to review whether any lapses occurred during the investigation.
The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon when Himanshu was found dead after reportedly falling from the third floor of a hotel. The MPATS team arrived at Sohna Civil Hospital, where Himanshu was declared dead upon arrival. Himanshu had reportedly been detained along with five other youths from a room in a society near Dhunela, but the ATS has not provided further details on the nature of their investigation.
As of now, the Sohna police have not filed any formal case in connection with Himanshu’s death. They have initiated a postmortem examination, which is being conducted by a panel of doctors in the presence of a duty magistrate in Gurgaon. The results of the postmortem are expected to provide more clarity on the cause of death.
Himanshu’s family is demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding his tragic death, while authorities continue their inquiry.
