BHOPAL: Police arrested a 40-year-old man, accused of raping a 10-year-old girl in Guna district Madhya Pradesh, after a brief encounter on Sunday evening .
The accused, identified as Mukesh Jatav, had a reward of Rs 25,000 for his capture.
Jatav sustained a gunshot wound to his leg during the encounter and is currently hospitalized. According to Superintendent of Police Sanjeev Sinha, Jatav fired two shots at the police before they retaliated in self-defense.
Jatav is accused of raping the minor on November 6th. Police say Jatav approached the victim and her mother as they returned home from selling maize and buying wheat flour.
"He told the victim's mother that the shopkeeper paid her Rs 100 less and he will ensure to get that amount back. He then asked the woman to send her daughter with him to the shop to fetch the balance amount," police officials said.
The girl was later found unconscious in the Myana area of the district.
