Man who killed landlord to cook own death story, gets death sentence

Bhopal: A sessions court here sentenced a person to death for faking his death by killing his landlord who resembled him physically and burning his body to hide his identityin Phanda locality on the outskirts of the state capital. The accused who was out on parole committed the crime so that he is considered dead in records and does not have to go back to the prison after his parole period.The accused was awarded life imprisonment on the charge of kidnapping a child and was out on parole after serving five years in jail.According to the prosecution, a person was found dead in a house in Phanda under Khajuri Sadak police station on July 14, 2022. His body was partially burnt ann face was tied by a piece of partially burnt cloth. He was identified as Aman Dangi, who lived by the side of that house. His cousin Bhaiyalal Dangi identified him. The accused Rajat Saini lived in the house on rent. Saini was sentenced to life imprisonment by a Raghogarh court on the charge of kidnapping a child. He was serving the sentence in Gwalior jail and has come out on parole. Rajat Saini killed Aman Dangi and burnt his face so as to mislead the police into believing that he is dead and he doesn't have to go back to prison following expiry of the period of parole, said the prosecution. A bundle of 201 fake notes of Rs 500 was also recovered from him by the police. The court of sessions judge Dharmendra Tada had held the accused guilty on May 4, 2023 and suspended delivery of judgement on the issue of quantum of punishment. After being apprised of his past criminal record and his conduct in the Gwalior jail, the court sentenced him to death holding his crime as "rarest of the rare." TNN
