BHOPAL: Disinfection and allied activities in Covid-affected households are not taking place within 72 hours of diagnosis in many areas in Bhopal. In order to prevent infection, the

Bhopal

Municipal Corporation (BMC) undertakes sanitisation through containment areas. However, specific disinfection for households and multi-storeyed buildings to prevent infection spread has been missed in many instances.

“Ours is a seven-storey building. Two

Covid

cases have been diagnosed. The health team inspected the complex, but disinfection has not taken place,” said a resident of TT Nagar complex, seeking anonymity. Similar instances have been reported from other residential complexes. Disinfection spray should be carried out within 72 hours of a patient being diagnosed, as per protocol. Carrying out disinfection afterwards does not have the same impact, said a senior AIIMS Bhopal consultant.

“We have limited manpower and with the increase in number of infections, the task is more challenging,” said a BMC area health officer.
